Netflix Begins Its Quest to Phase out DVD's

LOS GATOS (AP) — Netflix is preparing for the day when getting DVDs by mail is as old-fashioned as going to the video store. It’s hoping to wean people from DVDs with a cheap plan that offers movies and old TV episodes exclusively through online streaming. It will cost $8 per month, matching a recent price cut by rival Hulu.

Buckingham Research, Ex-Compliance Chief Settle SEC Charges

DOW JONES NEWSWIRES
Broker-dealer Buckingham Research Group and its former chief compliance officer have agreed to pay a combined $160,000 to settle Securities and Exchange Commission charges that they failed to have adequate policies in place to prevent misuse of nonpublic information.

Buckingham and its investment-advisory operation, Buckingham Capital Management, were accused of replacing missing pre-approval forms for more than 100 employee trades and also replacing incomplete compliance logs during preparation for a 2006 SEC examination. They then allegedly turned over the documents without telling the SEC officials what it had done.

The SEC said Wednesday that the records "were particularly important" because they aimed to address deficiencies identified in an earlier SEC exam.

Without admitting or denying the SEC allegations, Buckingham will pay $125,000 and Lloyd Karp, who was accused of aiding and abetting and causing the compliance failures, agreed to pay $35,000. The settlement also requires Buckingham to hire an independent consultant to review its compliance policies and procedures.

Buckingham Research provides equity coverage focused on the retail, apparel and footwear industry to hedge funds, broker-dealers and other institutional investors.
