The amount wasn't disclosed, but it was in the ball park of a minority stake. Parallels makes pretty awesome software, namedly, the virtualization application Parallels Desktop for the mac. I use it and it works better than vmware.
Basically, the company offers a cloud service for companies that want to off-load video encoding to a third party service. It saves some money...
click click click...the online video-guide has raised a total of $19 million so far...
And I"m not even going to link to his hater article...the only backlash is the one you're going to get in your face when then iPad obliterates every competing tablet device! Dvorak, you are a douchebag!
I read their S1 filing and this is one very risky investment if you ask me. They have been losing money for the past 5 years and debt piling sky high. Honestly, I'm not sure why they even bother ipo'ing if it's going to eventually tank below $1 and get de-listed.
It seems like Amazon has recovered from the iPad hangover and will build a new Kindle with multi-touch-screen capability. If you check the touchco website - http://www.touchco.com/ , you'll notice they're no longer doing business. I wonder how much amazon acquired them for?
I can't blame the consumers for being scared of runaway camries and explosive unhappy endings. It'll probably take toyota the entire year to repair their image after this PR nightmare. In the meantime, sales of Ford F150 and Mustangs are going through the roof...thanks in most part to exploding autobot transformers made by toyota.
I guess we're not going to Mars anytime soon as Dubya Bush envisioned and wet dreamed because the country needs to cut its budget, reduce our deficit, and NASA will likely scale back. Without space exploration and research, we'll never be able to achieve warp speed. As a result, we won't make first contact with the vulcans and our society will continue its course of being a bunch of idiotic primates and the eventual destruction of both our planet and one another...oh well, we still got Star Trek 2 to look forward to...not to mention Avatar 2, where we'll go and try to destroy someone's else world.
It has been projected that virtual goods will rake in $1.6 billion smackeroo's this year. That's a lot of reward points and farmville coins. Is it the next big thing on the internet?
Nope, probably not until they make more than $100 per quarter. :-) You know what I think they should do? Charge those dumb celebrities for usage. I bet they'll rake in tons. Market it as a tool for washout celebs and attention whores.
I think I know why...their valuation has plunged to $5 billion as of late. Then again, they should IPO so they don't turn into a ghost town like Myspace.
Personally, I don't own one because I can already stream Netflix movies from my PS3. However, Roku supports other on-demand video providers such as Amazon and MLB.com. I doubt I will ever get one because Sony and Microsoft will likely come out with a similar device. Other tv makers may also include this feature. So it's a pretty risky investment if you ask me.
