Tribe.net appointed Jan Gullett chief executive officer, replacing founder Marc Pincus. Gullet, who previously was CEO of PlanetWeb and WebSwap, will lead Tribe.net as it competes against social networks such as Friendster and portal-based competitors like Yahoo 360 and Google Orkut.
Pincus, who will remain a Tribe.net board member and adviser to the company, said he is stepping down because his "focus has always been developing early stage ideas into businesses." Investors in Tribe.net, founded in 2003 in San Francisco, include Knight Ridder, Mayfield Venture Capital and the Washington Post Co.
I've noticed Tribe.net has attracted ultra-liberals and burning man types. They do have quite a bit of mature adult-related content too.
